what does the Bible say about spiritual warfare? Below are several verses that God's Word tells us who the enemy is and how to defeat him!
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe. In my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues, they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” (Mark 16:15-18)
“Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee … the Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor, He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:14-18)
“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” (Luke 10:19)
“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. He sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.” (Luke 9:1)
“And He called the twelve to Him, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits … And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.” (Mark 6:7,13)
“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” (Matthew 10:1)
“But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:6-8)
“For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7)
The Armor of God
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.” (Matthew 12:43-45)
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1Peter 5:8)
Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.” Seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. (Acts 19:13-16)
Walking has become a great pasttime for me. It relieves stress and helps to keep me healthy both mentally and physically. I live in a beautiful part of the country with mountains, streams, flowers and trees. The sunsets here are magnificent and I just love to sit and watch the sun set behind the mountains. When I walk I love to look around at all that God has made. It makes me feel closer to him.
But lately some very majestic geese have moved into the area and they are leaving little surprises everywhere. They have taken up residence on our back path next to a peaceful stream. Now I find myself looking down all the time as I meander my way down the dirt path, all I can focus on is avoiding these "piles". My focus has changed. I have stopped looking at all that's good and wonderful around me and started looking at the obstacles that are placed in my path.
This reminds me of the story of Peter as he jumped out of the boat buffeted by the storm. He was so excited to get to Jesus he thought of nothing else and started walking on the water. But then his focus changed and he started to sink.
That's why we must learn to keep our eyes on God even when these little piles are placed in our path. Our focus should be placed on him, not the problems around us. I would rather focus on the good rather than the bad. I am learning to walk with my head held hight and my eyes on my savior, letting him guide my steps even through the rough and dirty spots!

It's 3:00 in the morning
The kids are in bed and the usual hustle and bustle of the world is now quiet.
I should be sleeping, Yet here I lie.
I am wide awake not thinking about my list of what i need to do tomorrow, which is very long, but rather contemplating the vastness and greatness of my God.
You who created the mountains, the stars, the universe. You formed Every creature that roams the earth as well as The angels in heaven. You created life from dust.
But here I sit at 3:00 AM, this tiny speck on the earth in this wonderful, vast universe, this one soul among all the others and you see me and know me
You know every hair on my head, you know the desires of my heart
You know me intimately, all the times I betrayed you, turned my back on you, and wallowed in my fleshly desires. you know all my faults and yet you still love me.
There is nothing I can do to make you love me more. Even those times I have given up my time and resources to do your work, pushing myself to the brink of exhaustion. Trying to please people and strive for worldly standards and a check list that no mortal should ever try to accomplish without your supernatural power.
But at 3:00 AM, the darkness surrounds me swallowing up in a vastness as big as the ocean, but you see me. I can feel your presence. This is what I was made for, to talk with you, share with you, to know you as intimately as you know me. To have a relationship that we all want, we all crave and if you need to wake me up at 3:00 AM to have that quiet time, I am willing Lord. I want to want that time to seek you out, to know you more than I want to eat, more than I want to sleep, more than I want to breath, more than anything else on earth. I am here for you, just as you have always been here for me.

Oh Lord, my heart cries out to you.
The waves of life seemed to threaten and over take me.
The despair overwhelms my soul.
The path that you have chosen for me seems too long and winding for me to bear. I cannot see the end, but I know of all the hidden dangers that lie silently ready to harm me as I pass by. Ahead I can see the shadows of darkness covering parts of this path and fear grips my soul, I cannot take another step. The burden you have laid on me seems to heavy to bear.
The storm clouds gather in the distance, as thunder rolls further announcing the impending threats of the dangers that lie ahead. I look for a place to run, but there is no place to go. I close my eyes not wanting to see or feel, but hide, deny, anything to free me from this current prison I'm in.
A light wind stirs out of nowhere, caressing my face and ruffling my hair. You have come along beside me and gently remind me that I was never suppose to travel this road alone. It was built for two. You will shine your light in those dark places. You will help me carry my load. You will calm the storm. I cannot do this alone, but only with you can I persevere and conquer what lies before me. And even on this road marked with trouble, pain, sorrow, sickness and one day even death, I know that I can overcome just as you did for you will be with me for now and ever more. Amen
